Text Box: Belting in A.S.K.
Text Box: Skills evaluations and belt promotions are held every three months.  Those who are ready to attempt to receive a higher belt must meet the following criteria:
Have completed three months of classroom instruction.
Complete the 10 question written test on emotional self defense.
Have the "Notice of Intent" form signed by a parent and an academic teacher.
Turn in the evaluation application with the fee.
The skills evaluation fees are as follows:
$30 for yellow, orange and green belt evaluations
$40 for purple, blue and 1st level brown belt evaluations
$50 for 2nd, 3rd and 4th level brown belt evaluations
$50 for probationary black belt evaluation
$100 for 1st degree black belt evaluation
$50 dollars per degree thereafter.
Students below brown belt who miss the required performance standards by only one or two techniques will receive a belt of their same color with a black stripe through the middle.  This is higher than the same color of belt with no stripe, but is not yet the next higher belt level.  (I call it the pert-near but not plum promoted belt.) The student will have 4 to 6 weeks to properly perform these one or two techniques for any black belt in the school and receive their new belt.  This way, they will not be behind for the next skills evaluation. Any student who does not pass a belt exam will not be charged the testing fee for that belt color on the next test.
What is awarded with the new level of promotion:
A belt of the next higher level color.
A certificate of promotion suitable for framing.
A laminated wallet identification card.
Ten karate business cards with their name and rank.  Brown belt business cards have rank replaced with "Assistant Instructor"
1st degree black belts receive all of the above plus:
A custom black belt with their name embroidered in gold.
A student gift bible with their name embossed on the front, the date of their achievement on the inside and a personal note of encouragement and congratulations from Mr. P. (this is a reference on how to use the skills for good and not for evil).
Black belt requirements:
1st degree - a minimum of three years training and the successful teaching of one beginner class.
2nd degree - one more year of training and minimal teaching.

Text Box: Testing for belts is not required, but it helps us all to have short term goals. Testing is where many schools find their supplemental income. I have heard of testing prices which go as high as $500 for high color belts and $2000 for black belt. Then, additional charges were required for certificates and belts. This is most often due to the high overhead of operating a martial arts facility. Thanks to our low overhead, we are able to offer our services without the stress of spending all of your money here.
